Meet Our Board

  • Jen Medlock, Chairperson

Hi, I am Jen Medlock and I am the Chair of Lighthouse this year. Lighthouse and Jefferson have been my kids’ elementary school for twelve years. My two eldest are now in high school. My two youngest are both here this year. It is more than the amazing teachers and the educational opportunities that keep us here; it is the community. I think of Lighthouse as my small town in the city.

  • Chelsea Baumgartner, Vice-Chairperson

This is our second year in Lighthouse! My daughter, Gracie, is in First Grade, and we have loved our Lighthouse Experience so far. I really believe in the co-op model and think that the more you put into a program like Lighthouse, the more you will get out of it.

We participated in co-op preschool for three years and were so happy to find out that we could continue to participate in a co-op program through Elementary School. I find it to be extremely fulfilling to participate in my daughter's education and to get to know the people and places that she is spending time with when she is away from us. Ultimately, co-op is about community and we feel very lucky to be a part of the Lighthouse Community!

  • Sabrina Scown, Secretary

My name is Sabrina, and I am the newly elected secretary for the Lighthouse board. This is also our first year in the Lighthouse program, as my son just started kindergarten this year in Mrs. Adams' class. This is our first experience with a co-op program, and what intrigued me about Lighthouse is the truly "cooperative" aspect. I think it's wonderful that each class will remain together for each year they're in the program, allowing the kids to make lifelong friends. I also value and appreciate the teacher/family involvement, which truly enriches the learning going on here in Lighthouse. The intentional support for extra programs, such as the Explorations, Excursions, and field trips adds even more value to the co-op experience. The community that is fostered and supported here is truly exceptional, and it's an honor to be one small part of it.

Outside of being a co-op parent, I am actually a substitute teacher in the Everett School District! For fun, I like to cook/try new recipes, play trivia, try my hand at Wordle and compare scores with my parents 🙃, and getting out in nature. Two of our favorite places to visit here in Everett are the North West Stream Center and the Evergreen Arboretum & Gardens. Most of all, my kids and I love to laugh and not take ourselves TOO seriously 🙂.

  • Jennifer Hayden, Treasurer

This is our 2nd year at Lighthouse. I love engaging and supporting things that are important to my kids. In past years, I've coached T-ball or acted as an art docent, so it is a wonderful honor to serve our community as your Treasurer. Watching Micah (5th grade) be excited to start school and be part of the LH community warms my heart. Meeting so many amazing Lighthouse families and feeling welcomed into the program made it easy to want to do more. I look forward to meeting more families and continuing to build with this fantastic community.

  • Kayla Doubt, Fundraising Chairperson

This is our 2nd year at Lighthouse. I choose lighthouse because I love being part of a cooperative community. I have been very active with my kids preschool cooperative and could not wait to continue the community building during the elementary years. We love all the amazing families we have met and that our kids are surrounded by wonderful adults and teachers that are supporting their learning and helping them build life long skills. Lighthouse is an amazing community and I am proud to be a part of it.

  • Jen Hoffman, Futures Committee

This is our third year in the program.

Years ago my older son went to a neighborhood elementary school and faced a lot of struggles socially and academically, so in fourth grade I moved him to a co-op in Marysville. We had such a wonderful, positive experience which was a huge relief after the challenges we faced previously. He developed great friendships as did I with the parents and it gave me better insight into what he was learning and how to help him academically. When my younger son became old enough for Kindergarten, I was so excited to learn about Lighthouse so he could have the same great experience my older son had.

  • Amy Koehl, Co-Registrar

This is our 6th lighthouse year. Levi, our oldest, is in 5th grade and Ezra, our youngest, is in 2nd. I have previously served as a fundraising assistant, fundraising coordinator, public relations, and classroom coordinator

For our family Lighthouse Co-op is about connection and community. We love the sense of community and exploration that the co-op fosters in our children and the opportunity to share our time and talent with the Lighthouse and Jefferson Elementary communities.

  • Emylee Norgaard, Co-Registrar

Hello! My name is Emylee, and I’ve been part of Lighthouse for two years! Outside of Lighthouse I enjoy canning, baking, and anything outside with my family.

Our family joined Lighthouse so that we could join a community of parents who are fully invested in their children’s education. The best part of our lives was when we lived in a town of 900 and Lighthouse feels like home.

With this community not only is our child receiving an excellent education, but also becoming a part of something bigger than himself. The other families in the program already feel like an extension of our own family and we can’t wait to grow along with them.

  • Lindsey Wright, Socials Chairperson

Wife, mom of Ainsley (6) and Walker (2), kindergarten teacher and Lighthouse Social Chairperson. Last year I was the kindergarten classroom coordinator and had the pleasure of joining the board. This year, I will serve on the board as Lighthouse Social Chair.

This is our families second year in Lighthouse Cooperative. The reason our family joined the cooperative was for the community of parents and kids seeking a quality and supportive education for their scholars. My daughter Ainsley (pictured above) is in Mrs. Stewart’s first grade class. She adores her teacher and cohort of friends.

I look forward to enjoying the back to school social, seasonal socials and the end of the year party with you all! Hopefully, you’ll have the opportunity to support our service events as well: the Giving Tree and Spring Clean!

  • Tanya Hayes, Public Relations Chairperson

Halo! I'm Tanya, and we’re in our my fourth year at Lighthouse! I’m married to my adventurer husband, Nick, and we have two kiddos, Desmond (5th grade) and Samara (2nd grade). We love being a part of this community, and have loved seeing our kids and their classmates grow up together. One of the best parts of being in Lighthouse is being able to do life not just in school, but outside as well.

Outside of school, I "shoot people," but don't worry, it's just for my photography business. In my free time, I love exploring and trying new things. Nick and I love looking at Google Maps and saying, "Ooh, what's over there? Let's go check it out!" We'll take the kids to find parks, trails, museums or places to swim. We’re always up for an adventure.

  • Scott McGhee, Co-Webmaster

Our family has been a part of Lighthouse for 6 years.

Besides the co-op preschool we had Zoe attend before Lighthouse, which really showed us the benefits of being involved in our kids’ education, my “why Lighthouse?” reason is about being a model for our kids. I think it shows our kids that we care by giving this level of effort and attention, exemplifies teamwork, and helps them in their ability to approach adults and relate what they’re thinking or what they need.

  • Whitney Klaus, Kindergarten Classroom Coordinator

My husband, Shawn, and I have 3 children, and this is our third year at Jefferson being a part of Lighthouse. Our two oldest are currently enrolled and their little sister can't wait to join! When my oldest was starting Kindergarten school was just going back to all in-person classes and things were a little uncertain to say the least. Even though Lighthouse had set-backs in terms of the extra involvement that sold me on the program in the first place, like the regularity of extra adults in the classroom volunteering and taking more field trips, it was still an amazing experience. It eases my mind to know who my kids now spend all day around AND their families. I have loved the process of becoming a part of the Lighthouse and Jefferson community!

  • Justin and Gracielle Yan, 1st Grade Classroom Coordinators

We have a first grader (Leo "Yoshi Fan" Yan) and 2 year old (Cece "Snackmonster" Yan). As a family, we love spending time on the beach, playdates at parks, eating Korean BBQ, and being couch potatoes on rainy days (which usually involves snuggles with popcorn and movies). In our spare "kid free" moments, you'll often find Justin in the woods climbing a boulder and Gracielle cutting and arranging flowers from the garden

This is our second year in Lighthouse! We're here because we like being closely involved in Leo's education. We also love supporting all the kids in the class and getting to hang with their very cool parents.

  • Erin Shursen, 2nd Grade Classroom Coordinator

This is our third year in lighthouse (we started in kindergarten). As a former teacher, I wanted to be directly involved in supporting William’s teachers and building community in his school so cooperative education seemed like the perfect blend. Our family loves travel and values life experiences like going to see William’s favorite monster truck in Portland. We are all extroverts who are up for any adventure life puts in our paths. I haven’t met the craft I don’t like-with my husband being in IT, my low tech interests and his high tech ones balance out and keep us all learning from each other.

  • Nikki Dullum, 3rd Grade Classroom Coordinator

Hi I’m Nikki- married to my high school sweetheart, Dan. And we have 2 girls: Harper in 3rd and Kenna in 2nd. I am also a NICU and PEDS RN and work nights so if you see me walking around zombie like, no need to panic- I’ve probably just come off a shift.

As a family we spend non-sports nights/weekends at church, camping, on/near the water/beach in some capacity, or hanging out. A sunny, hot day at the beach is my idea of a perfect day! Super excited to be on the lighthouse board team this year!

  • Sarah Adams, 4th Grade Classroom Coordinator

I graduated from college in 2009 from Western Washington University with a BA in Elementary Education and an endorsement in Special Education. After graduating I began my teaching career in Snohomish as a ½ day kindergarten teacher. In 2014 I became a mother and joined the Jefferson Chargers family. In 2019 I became a part of the Lighthouse community as both a teacher and a parent. I love to bring music in the classroom, and teach most things through song.

Outside of school, my family enjoys camping, kayaking, swimming, and playing with our puppy. We spend much of our time being active in scouts, and going to my son’s baseball or soccer games.

  • Nicole Johnson, Lead & 5th Grade Classroom Coordinator

Hello! I’m Nicole, your Lead CC and 5th grade CC. This is our 5th year in Lighthouse.

My husband Brian and I joined Lighthouse because we wanted to be involved in the classroom, and in our daughter’s education. We loved the idea of community and being able to be in the classrooms weekly. Our daughter Abbey loves the parent small groups, field trips, and her favorite thing is explorations! As a family we like to create, build, and bake! We enjoy finding creative ways to turn those activities into explorations to share with the rest of the community.
